"Political Sport"

Progressives like to think of themselves as open-minded. Only conservatives, in their view, categorize people by race and sex; and only conservatives, therefore, are racist and sexist. This is self-serving tripe. We saw during the confirmation hearings of Clarence Thomas that racism is alive and well on the political left. We now see, during the 2008 presidential campaign, that sexism is alive and well on the political left. I was a progressive for 20 years of my life. I've been a conservative for the past five. I've been "inside" both ideologies. There is no doubt in my mind that there is more racism and sexism on the political left than on the political right. Perhaps it is because, to most progressives, the end justifies the means. If it takes racism to keep Clarence Thomas off the Supreme Court, so be it. If it takes sexism to keep Sarah Palin out of the vice presidency, so be it. There are some things conservatives won't do, no matter how much good it will produce. Just think of all the things that could be said about Barack Obama, but aren't. Here is a column, by a woman, about the vicious personal attacks on Sarah Palin.
