This is how persuasive definition works. The term "rape" has negative emotive meaning. By expanding the denotation of the term, so that it applies to more objects, one tries to spread the negativity to the new objects. How's that for sleight of hand?

Keith, spreading the negativity in this case is justified. The acts covered by the new definition are morally abhorrent and, in any event, more in light with state laws. As the article points out, the traditional definition "left out many crimes that were prosecuted as rape under state laws but that were not reflected in national statistics."

There is no comparison between forcible rape and having sex with a drugged person, David.
