It is remarkable Keith, that Romney is winning. But, that goes to the problem of the ineptness of the Republican Party. Its litmus test for purity limit the appeal to so many people--I'm one of them, and so I bet are the people who would refuse to elect Romney to the presidential ticket let alone the Whitehouse. We're not wanted in the party--pro-choice early in pregnancy, civil unions (for homo- and heterosexual couples), and anti-cronyism just aren't acceptable.
So, Romney wins, America loses, and the elite Republicans remain in power.

IMHO, if a Republican candidate appeared who was a fiscal conservative, yet said that the government should stay out of people's personal lives - that individual could win in a landslide.
Clearly, my opinions on many social issues differ from the religious right. Still - of course they are entitled to battle for their beliefs. Nevertheless, I think that they would be far more successful in that quest if they worked more in the private sector rather than through government to try to change people's hearts and minds.
And ultimately, do they think that a President Obama, or almost any Republican candidate would be more sympathetic to their views? Again; IMHO, better to have a moderate Republican there than a more-far-to-the-left-than-any-previous-president Obama.
