There is tremendous antipathy to Tim Tebow. Why? Because he does not keep his religious faith private. (Read the comments on this New York Times story.) Progressives want to destroy all intermediate institutions, from the family to religion to private education. They want nothing intermediate between the individual and the state (the arm of which is to be secularized public education). This will make it easier for the state to control individuals. There will no competing authorities or values. Tim Tebow reminds progressives of the power of religion in individuals' lives.

It is quite shocking how much attention he's getting. The snl skits, songs on the internet, the endlless trite jokes. All because he says, "wanna thank jesus first". How could saying that and getting on one knee irk people so badly?

It is very odd. I can't begin to count the number of Latino baseball players (and quite a few who aren't Latino) who cross themselves at the plate or on the mound--or after a hit. There are many NFL players who take a knee in the end zone, doing so a long time before it became "Tebowing." And I even heard the occasional post-game NFL interview in which the player has said, "I want to thank God." Most of these NFL players are, however, black. What has amazed me though, when I've attended NFL games, is that some players, white, black, and in between, from both teams will meet before and after the game and kneel in prayer. It's just crazy the way the media goes after Tebow.

I'm in awe of the young man's courage. He could increase his fan base and his earnings substantially if he were to tone down his references to Jesus Christ. That he has not done so speaks powerfully to me of his genuine love for the Lord.
