This is hilarious. Evidently, the reporter did not consider the possibility that the reason why "97% of researchers who actively publish on climate science agree that climate change is real and caused by humans" is that those who are skeptical of global warming have their essays rejected. And what's wrong with scientists from outside "climate science" commenting on the methods of climate scientists? Those who work inside the field are intimidated by their fellows. To break ranks would be to commit professional suicide. Only an outsider has the requisite detachment and independence to see what is going on in this cesspool of a field and to criticize it.
Addendum: Here is a paragraph from the scientists' letter:
Research shows that more than 97% of scientists actively publishing in the field agree that climate change is real and human caused. It would be an act of recklessness for any political leader to disregard the weight of evidence and ignore the enormous risks that climate change clearly poses. In addition, there is very clear evidence that investing in the transition to a low-carbon economy will not only allow the world to avoid the worst risks of climate change, but could also drive decades of economic growth. Just what the doctor ordered. (boldface added)
This is politics, not science. Scientists can tell us how things are. They cannot tell us how things ought to be. (Note, too, that these natural scientists are dabbling not only in politics, but in economics, which is, or purports to be, a social science. Do you see the irony?)
