Once again, there is a failure to distinguish between using a word and mentioning it. The word "fuck" is offensive only when it is used. How can it be offensive when it is mentioned? It's a word! We can and should talk about it. Where did it come from? How is it used? Why is it offensive? Will its offensiveness (such as it is) decline as its use increases? Imagine somebody failing to distinguish between using a hammer and mentioning a hammer. It's the same as failing to distinguish between using "fuck" and mentioning "fuck." Words, like hammers, are tools.
Addendum: I did not use the word "fuck" in this post. I did, however, mention it three times (four, counting this addendum). Anyone who is offended by the mere mention of a word needs professional help.
