This afternoon, having gotten our work done for the day, Katherine and I watched Prometheus (2012) at an IMAX theater in Arlington, Texas. It was in 3D. We have a 3D television, but haven't watched anything in 3D on it. (The movies are insanely expensive.) I was pleasantly surprised by how realistic the 3D was. I got new, stronger eyeglasses the other day, so everything was crystal clear. The sound quality was excellent (if a little loud) and the special effects were amazing. Unfortunately, I didn't understand the plot. I have all four Alien movies, so it's not as though I'm unfamiliar with the basic story line. Katherine explained some of it to me afterward, but I'm afraid I'll never get it. Has anyone else been confused by the movie? Why was it so complicated? Couldn't it have been simpler and just as exciting? As for the acting, it was mediocre at best. Nobody came close to the riveting performances of Sigourney Weaver in earlier Alien movies. As for character development, the characters in Prometheus were little more than caricatures. I kept wondering who they were, where they came from, and what made them tick. I realize we can't look into their souls, but come on, make them realistic! All in all, I give the movie two stars out of five. The best Alien movie, by far, is the second, Aliens (1986). Many of the scenes of that movie are imprinted on my brain forever.
