Texas got no points in the latest football poll, and yet Mack Brown has his job. He's the second highest-paid college coach (at more than $5,000,000 per year) in the country. (Nick Saban of Alabama is first.) Here's what's going on. When Brown won a national title in 2006, the fans were so deliriously happy that they told him, in effect, that he could have a job for life. Texas should be in the title hunt every year. The state of Texas is football crazy, and UT gets its pick of recruits. It's actually quite hard to coach a bad Texas team; but Brown has it mastered. I, for one, am loving it. I hope he stays on as coach for another 10 years.
